Mary Elizabeth Nottingham

Mary Elizabeth Nottingham was the daughter of Stanley E. and Anna B. (Johnson) Nottingham and the younger sister of Ellen Nottingham. She was born April 10th, 1901.

Miss Nottingham was one of the area's Black educators.

She attended the Bridgewater State Normal School (now Bridgewater State University) and graduated in 1920. She was the class historian and a member of the yearbook editorial staff. See the images below from "The Normal Offering."

According to the 1940 census, Mary lived on Elm Street in Swansea with her parents and her sister, Ellen. Mary never married. (source: familysearch.org)

Mary Elizabeth Nottingham died on March 22^th, 1988 and is buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Swansea.
