John Howland was the 13th signer of the Mayflower Compact

Elizabeth Howland, John Holland's wife, lived here in Swansea. She lived with her daughter Lydia and son-in-law James Brown. The house, located on Pearse Road was the James Brown and was located house across the street from the John Brown House. Elizabeth died in Swansea at her daughter's house. The original James Brown House is no longer standing. The current James Brown House on Pearse Road was owed by a descendant of James Brown.
